Chelsea beat Southampton 4-2 to stay top on the Premier League standings


Chelsea on Tuesday night, April 25 defeated Southampton 4-2

 It was an explosive Premier League duel played at Stamford Bridge

The Blues have now extended their lead to 7 points above second placed Tottenham

Premier League leaders Chelsea have extended their lead on the standings to seven points after beating visiting Southampton 4-2 on Tuesday night, April 25, 2017 at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues had to labour before they could beat their hard-fighting opponents in the highly entertaining fixture.

Belgian international Eden Hazard continued his impressive form this term for Chelsea as he scored the first goal in the 5th minute after being set up by Diego Costa.

The visitors fought back in the 24th minute when Manolo Gabbiadini fired a 30-yard-shot which Thibaut Courtois parried before Oriol Romeu tapped in the equalizer.

Chelsea made their fans happy again on the stroke of half-time when Gary Cahill's header put the Blues ahead in the 45th minute.

Spanish international Diego Costa netted the third and the fourth goal for Antonio Conte's men in the 53rd and 89th minutes.

Southampton pulled one back late-on, but there was no time for them to fight again as Chelsea won the match 4-2.

With 78 points from 33 matches, Chelsea now lead second placed Tottenham with 7 points, but Pochettino's men have a game in hand.
