So Weird: See the 11-year-old Boy With a Rare Condition That Makes Him Look Like a Really Old Man

Shreyash Barmate

An inspirational young boy with an ultra-rare genetic condition that makes him look like an old man refuses to let it hold him back – and even drives a CAR.

Shreyash Barmate, 11, who lives in Madhya Pradesh, India, has progeria – a condition which ages his body around eight times faster than normal.

The condition leaves Shreyash suffering from baldness, heavy wrinkles and weakened limbs.

The Progeria Research Foundation believe the syndrome is so rare it affects around 1 in 20 million people.

The average life expectancy for children with progeria is 14, with many dying from a heart condition called arteriosclerosis, which usually affects adults over the age of 60.

But despite the challenges posed by the syndrome, Shreyash remains incredibly positive about his daily life and his future.

He said: “I play instruments, I sing and I ride a bicycle and drive a car. I go swimming as well.”

“I know I have a condition called progeria but I am okay with it. It’s not coming in my way at all. This condition is not affecting my dream of becoming a singer.”

Shreyash has an older brother and a twin brother, neither of whom have the condition. While progeria is caused by a genetic mutation, experts do not believe it is hereditary.

Shreyash’s dad Arvind Barmate, a government employee in Madhya Pradesh, says his son started developing marks all over his body when he was two.

Arvind said: “He has progeria but he never lets us feel that he has some disease. He always spends his time playing and singing.

“He wants to become a singer and he is actively taking part in singing. His condition is not stopping him at all.”

Doctor Girish Budhrani, the family’s paediatrician says that despite the rare medical condition, Shreyash is an energetic and positive boy.

He said:  “This is the first time I’m seeing progeria as a patient. In total there are around 140 progeria patients and around 60 of them are in India.
“I see him as one of the most positive children in our society. If you go to normal children you will see they wouldn’t be as jovial as Shreyash.”

Shreyash spends his days playing cricket, painting, swimming and playing musical instruments.

He said: I go out with my brother and play cricket with him and other friends. We all play together. I have a lot of friends.

Shreyash is also proud that, despite his condition he has not fallen prey to bullying.

He said: “I know we can get bullied but all my friends respect me and play with me all the time. I have never been bullied by anyone.
“People say I am not a different kind of boy, I am like them. I am normal who wishes to achieve something good in life.”

Although Shreyash’s body shows signs of extreme ageing, he has the mental age of a regular 11-year-old. But his condition does require regular check-ups.

Dr Budhrani said: “Progeria is not curable. Shreyash needs a regular check up and we have to monitor his every single problem. He is a very active boy but at the same time he is having a rare medical condition so he needs to get checked every week.

“But he has a lot of talent. If you listen to his singing, he’s one of the most fabulous singers you’d ever come to know.”

Now, the ultra-positive 11-year-old is planning to focus on his singing.

Shreyash said: “I have stopped thinking about progeria. I want to become a singer when I grow up, and I am going to get famous as well.
“I play instruments and nobody can play better than I do. So I am very happy.”

Worse Than Lucifer: The Unbelievable Story of a Man Who R*ped His Own Son and Wife Over 900 Times

Brian McTaggart

Brian McTaggart, a 53-year-old monster who r*ped his own son and his wife over 900 times has been described as 'more evil than the devil'.

According to a report b The Sun UK, Brian McTaggart attacked Kathleen McMurchie up to three times a week during their 10-year marriage — and battered their lad David, 31.

The beast, from Dundee, destroyed the lives of 18 victims during a 24-year reign of terror.

Sickened David, who waived his right to anonymity along with his mum, said: “He’s worse than Lucifer.”

David, 31, insisted the monster should never be freed following his conviction.

Evil McTaggart threw a hairdryrer into her bath and hurled her down stairs during their nightmare 10-year marriage.

After his dad’s conviction, David — who the fiend was also accused of raping — said: “He’s an animal. He’s completely switched off from the world.
“I’ll never be satisfied while he’s still alive but I’m glad he was for the verdict. He should never walk the streets again.”

David, who waived his right to anonymity along with his mum, says the predator “ruined his life” and revealed he bathed in bleach after the alleged abuse in 2011.

He went on: “He was volatile. He battered me as a child but nothing homosexual until I told people I was gay.
"He raped me when his girlfriend was sleeping in the other room. I was hysterical.
“I spent eight hours in the police station that night then I went in for a bath with bleach in it, I still do that to this day.”

During his father’s trial at the High Court in Glasgow, David told jurors: “When he opened a bottle of vodka he changed. He behaved as if he was possessed by the devil.”

David, of Blackpool, is battling an eating disorder in the wake of the trauma.

He suffered injuries aged 12 to 18 after his father rained blows on his head and stabbed his fingers into his eyes.

It total McTaggart was convicted of sexual and physical abuse against 18 victims in home city Dundee between 1980 and 2004.

Jurors heard the fiend told victims: “You belong to me. I can do anything I want.”

Ex-wife Kathleen McMurchie, 53, told the trial: “He r*ped me two or three times a week over six years. He also raped me shortly after I had given birth.”

The mum — who divorced the brute in 1993 and has remarried — said McTaggart would say sorry and buy her flowers after the violence.

Jurors heard how another r*pe victim was choked and her head forced under water. A third was attacked four times as she slept.

McTaggart indecently assaulted girls and boys and physically abused women and teenagers.

Charges of raping a fourth woman and David were not proven.

McTaggart claimed he was the victim of a “witch-hunt”.

Judge Lord Mulholland placed him on the sex offenders register saying he treated women as “punchbags”. Sentence was deferred.

Police branded the brute’s reign of terror “horrific”.

Detective Inspector Muriel Fuller blasted McTaggart over his warped abuse which spanned two decades.

The Domestic Abuse Task Force leader said: “McTaggart was a prolific, serial domestic abuser.
“He abused numerous partners, however, his offences are much wider and include the sexual and physical assault of children.
“His catalogue of offending is horrific. It spanned years and affected the lives of so many.”

Det Insp Fuller, right, also praised the courage of victims who helped nail the monster.

She added: “It’s only through the bravery of his many victims and witnesses in coming forward and disclosing the many offences he committed that he’s been convicted.
“We hope the outcome encourages more victims to come forward.”

While she's constantly getting lots of attention for her nails, and knows she is rather unique, her friends and family think it's quite normal.

In order to take care of her nails, Ayanna uses anti-bacterial soap and a nail brush to clean them daily. And to help them grow, she regularly applies hardener and a thin layer of acrylic.

'To let my children know that anything they want to accomplish can be done. It takes courage, discipline and patience but it can be accomplished,' said Ayanna on her reason for applying for the record.
'I am elated and honoured. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd make it into the Guinness World Records books!'

Nigerian killed in India over Biafra

An argument over the desirability of Biafra by some Nigerians in India has been blamed for the death of N. Chigozie, a 33-year-old who came to India with a student visa.

Indian police in Bengaluru are already probing the death.

The body of the Nigerian was found near the railway gate in Hennur, northeast Bengaluru, in the wee hours of Monday.

Chigozie, a resident of Hennur, was found with head injuries at 2 am; his motorcycle had skidded off the road.

While the body has been shifted to Ambedkar hospital for autopsy. Kothanur police, based on his brother’s statement have registered a murder case, reports the Times of India.

“It seems to be an accidental death. Preliminary evidence shows Chigozie, who was speeding on his bike, crashed into an iron railing and died of head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. But his younger brother Nieskho claims he was murdered,” police said.

On Sunday evening, Chigozie, Nieskho and four other Nigerians partied at African Kitchen restaurant at Byrathi near Hennur.

“The six revellers quarrelled over sharing food and assaulted each other. Nieskho went to a nearby hospital to treat his injuries and Chigozie followed him on a bike. While returning from the hospital, Chigozie died,” police said.

But in another account given by BangaloreMirror, Chigozie’s brother, whose name was spelt as Nanso, claimed his brother was killed after an argument with other friends over Biafra.

Here is the report in the newspaper: A 33-year-old man from Nigeria was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Geddalahalli on Hennur Road in the early hours of Monday. The brother of the victim, identified as Chigozie, said he may have been murdered. Chigozie was found dead near the Railway bridge at Geddalahalli.

The victim, who came to India on a student visa, was doing some business in the city, according to police. The victim, along with his brother Nanso, is said to have partied with a group of friends at a house in Byrathi.

During the party, it is alleged that the brothers and their friends had an argument over a political development in their country. Police said both the brothers were allegedly beaten up.

Nanso, who had come in his car, drove to a nearby private hospital and is said to have taken treatment. Chigozie, who was returning home on his bike, was found dead near the railway bridge. “Nanso suspects that his brother could have been killed. However prima facie evidence suggests that the death could also be due to an accident. The victim could have skidded and fallen from the bike while riding home. It was raining heavily. But a murder case has been registered based on his brother’s complaint and investigations are on,” S Girish, DCP (North East) told BM.

The Kothanur police, investigating the case, said the group of friends who were partying were discussing the political turmoil back home over the formation of a separate state in Nigeria(Biafra)

The discussion led to assault and the brothers were badly beaten up.

North Korea ignores UN, U.S., others, fires missile over Japan

North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un [Photo Credit: Al Jazeera]
North Korea on Tuesday carried out another ballistic missile test, with the latest flying over Japan.

The U.S. disarmament ambassador, Robert Wood, described the test as “another provocation” and a big concern.

Mr. Wood told reporters in Geneva that Washington still needs to do “further analysis” of the missile that flew over Japan’s northern Hokkaido island into the sea.

“It’s another provocation by North Korea, they just seem to continue to happen.

“This is a big concern of course to my government and to a number of other governments,” Mr. Wood said before a session of the UN-sponsored Conference on Disarmament where North Korean Ambassador Han Tae Song was to speak.

The test, one of the most provocative ever from the reclusive state, came as U.S. and South Korean forces conduct annual military exercises on the peninsula, to which North Korea strenuously objects.

North Korea has conducted dozens of ballistic missile tests under young leader Kim Jong Un, the most recent on Saturday, but firing projectiles over mainland Japan is rare.

“North Korea’s reckless action is an unprecedented, serious and a grave threat to our nation,” Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told reporters.

Mr. Abe said he spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday and they agreed to increase pressure on North Korea.

Mr. Trump also said the United States was “100 per cent with Japan”, Mr. Abe told reporters.

South Korea’s military said the missile was launched from near the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, just before 6 a.m. (2100 GMT Monday) and flew 2,700 km, reaching an altitude of about 550 km.

Four South Korean fighter jets bombed a military firing range on Tuesday after President Moon Jae-in asked the military to demonstrate capabilities to counter North Korea.

South Korea and the United States had discussed deploying additional “strategic assets” on the Korean peninsula, the presidential Blue House said in a statement, without giving more details.

U.S. President, Donald Trump
North Korea remained defiant

In its reaction to the test, Konstantin Kosachev, a Senior Russian lawmaker, said the UN Security Council’s resolution on Pyongyang has not reached its goal.

Mr. Kosachev, who is the head of the international committee of the Federation Council, said: “this provocative launch confirms the ‘stalemate’ around the North Korean problem.

“The UN Security Council resolution adopted at the beginning of the month did not achieve its goal, as the situation has shifted to the bilateral DPRK-U.S. regime.”

Tokyo said after the launch that the missile had flown over Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido and had fallen 1,180 km east of the island into the Pacific Ocean.

The Security Council has adopted 21 resolutions concerning North Korea.

Five resolutions were adopted during the Korean War in the 1950s.

In 1991, a single resolution was adopted regarding North Korea’s accession to membership in the UN.

Since then, many resolutions have been adopted in relation to the North Korean missile and nuclear programme.

Most recently, on August 6, the council passed a resolution imposing new sanctions on North Korea for its continued intercontinental ballistic missile testing and violations of UN resolutions.

With 15 votes in favour, Resolution 2371 was passed unanimously.

The resolution targets North Korea’s primary exports, including coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood.

The sanctions also target other revenue streams, such as banks and joint ventures with foreign companies.

The sanctions will slash North Korea’s annual export revenue of three billion dollars by more than a third, according to a statement from the office of Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the UN.

Shinzo Abe
The resolution represents “the strongest sanctions ever imposed in response to a ballistic missile test.”

The UN sanctions follow extra measures against North Korea signed into law by U.S. Pre

Trump called Whitson an "inspiration to us all" after she set the US record for the most days spent in space by an astronaut at 665. "Especially to young women interested in or currently pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and math," Trump added. Whitson and Fischer along with Russia's Fyodor Yurchijin, members of the 52nd expedition to the ISS, landed at 7.21 a.m., on Sunday near a remote area in Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan. Fischer and Yurchikhin both spent 136 days aboard the ISS.

In April, Trump spoke with Whitson to congratulate her after she broke the previous US record for cumulative days spent in space, The Hill magazine reported. "I want to say that this is a very special day in the glorious history of American space flight," the President said. "Today, Commander Whitson, you have broken the record for the most total-time spent in space by an American astronaut, 534 days and counting. That's an incredible record to break and on behalf of our nation and frankly, on behalf of the world, I'd like to congratulate you."

Russian cosmonaut Sergey Riazanski (Roscosmos), American Randolph Bresnik (NASA) and Italian Paolo Nespoli (European Space Agency), remain on the ISS, to be joined by three others on September 12. The ISS, a 16-nation project representing an investment of more than $150 billion, currently comprises 14 permanent modules and orbits the Earth at a speed of more than 27,000 kph.

"He's been performing at a high level and doing incredible things on the pitch for a while.

"He's at a top level and that's great for the team. We hope he keeps improving.

"Bearing in mind his personality, he'll become one of the greatest."

Spain are three points clear of the Azzurri in Group G with three matches remaining heading into tonight's trip to minnows Liechtenstein.

A police officer in the Ebonyi State, Donatus Oyibe, has reportedly committed suicide in Abakaliki, the state
capital.

Mr. Oyibe, a native of Ndegu Ishieke in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state, was said to have jumped into a well on Sunday night when he reportedly went to fetch water.

Residents said he had been ‘moody’ since August 28 when he received his letter of transfer to Maiduguri in Borno State.

A police source said he was among the last batch of Mobile Police Officers recently deployed from the 32 Squadron Abakaliki after completing his tour of duty.

“He was a gallant mobile police officer and had already reported back to the Police Command where he was posted to Operations Department and he resumed duties in earnest before the transfer came,” the source said.

His death was said to be connected with his recent transfer to Borno State after his posting letter was released on August 28.

The deceased’s daughter, Ukamaka, narrated that her late father took a bucket to fetch water from the well but did not come back after several hours and this led to a search for him by concerned family members.

She added that when they reached the well, his bucket was seen but he was nowhere to be found. His body was later discovered inside the well.

When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Loveth Ogah, said she was yet to be briefed on the development.

She promised that the command will investigate the matter.

Zulu Maidens Prepare for Annual Reed Dance, Undergo Virginity Testing to Affirm Their Purity

The Zulu maidens

Thousands of maidens have undergone virginity testing in their districts throughout the province and now they are ready to affirm their purity before Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini this week.

Every spring‚ maidens arrive at the king’s Enyokeni Palace in Nongoma. And this year’s Reed Dance (Umkhosi Womhlanga)‚ facilitated by the KZN department of arts and culture and the Zulu royal household‚ takes place from September 8 to 10.

Virginity testing (ukuhlolwa kwezintombi ) is an ancient Zulu tradition that is regarded as an important rite of passage to womanhood. It’s a custom Zulus have in common with Swazis‚ a nation that historians describe as their closest tribal cousins.

In both nations‚ only virgins are supposedly allowed to take part in the Reed Dance to ensure that it remains ritually pure.

Before embarking on the annual trek to Nongoma‚ the maidens have to be tested by elderly women days before the pilgrimage to Enyokeni or to the Swazi Queen Mother’s Eludzidzini residence.

Those who pass the test take pride in their status and are lauded by their community as izintombi nto‚ pure maidens.

The idea is that by remaining pure‚ the maidens are safe from unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

Tests can be conducted randomly at night or very early in the morning before they present reeds to the monarchs. This ancient Zulu practice was largely neglected by previous Zulu kings until it was revived by King Zwelithini in 1984.

Non-school going maidens will present their reeds to the king on Friday‚ September 9, while learners will present theirs on Saturday, followed by an address by King Zwelithini.

The eNyokeni festival follows another Umkhosi Womhlanga held in Ingwavuma at the king’s Emachobeni Royal Palace the weekend before.

However‚ the Reed Dance has put the king on a collision course with human rights bodies and feminists‚ who have accused him of reviving a practice they regard as a violation of women’s rights. Concerns have also been raised about whether the women are willing participants in virginity testing.

But King Zwelithini has resisted all attempts to outlaw virginity testing‚ arguing that the practice promotes respect for women and virginity before marriage.

'Obscene' S. Korea novelist dead in suspected suicide: police

An avant-garde South Korean novelist whose 1990s prosecution on obscenity charges prompted comparisons between his work and Lady Chatterley's Lover was found dead on Tuesday in an apparent suicide, police said.

Ma Kwang-Soo, 66, was arrested in 1992 and held in custody pending trial over Happy Sara, the story of a female student who has an affair with her professor, with other characters also engaging in various liaisons.

A professor of Korean literature at the prestigious Yonsei University, he was arrested when prosecutors barged into a lecture hall in the middle of a class.

In an extremely rare case in South Korea, he was convicted of spreading obscenity and given a suspended jail sentence.

He was fired from the Protestant-founded university.

At the time the country was in the process of embracing democracy after a period of military dictatorship, and Ma said in an appeal that he had fallen prey to the "piety" of the country's cultural conservatives, who he said had no understanding of avant-garde literature.

But the Supreme Court upheld the lower court's finding.

Ma was found dead in his apartment in Seoul Tuesday in what appeared to be a suicide, police said. News reports said he had been suffering from depression and was found hanging from a window pane with a scarf around his neck.

South Korea has one of the world's highest suicide rates.

Ma's case raised parallels with Lady Chatterley's Lover by D. H. Lawrence, the story of an aristocratic wife's affair with her gamekeeper.

Publisher Penguin Books appeared in a British court in 1960, when the prosecutor was ridiculed for asking the jury: "Is it a book that you would even wish your wife or your servants to read?"

Happy Sara remains banned in South Korea to this day.

Hajj 2017: Nigerian death rises to 14 as NAHCON loses staff

The number of Nigerian pilgrims who died during this year’s Islamic pilgrimage has risen to 14, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, has said.

The commission also said one of its staff, who died as a result of an illness, was among the victims.

This was revealed Monday by Nigeria’s head of National Medical Medical Team, Ibrahim Kana, at a briefing by the commission after a meeting of its management in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

“Total mortality at at September 4, is 14, while, seven were pre-Arafat with two pilgrims from Kaduna and one each from Yobe, Kogi; Kebbi; Katsina and the FCT; seven were post-Arafat, with two pilgrims from Kano (one international); and one each from Osun, FCT, Zamfara, Katsina and one NAHCON legal adviser,” Mr. Kana said.

The head of the medical team also said among the post-Arafat deaths, two occurred in Mina.

He said Muna/Arafat outing in this year’s hajj “was welcomed by scorching heat with temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius, thereby causing a lot of hardship on Nigerians and pilgrims in general.

“That resulted in early exhaustion, dehydration and even some developing heat stroke.”

He said the Nigerian medical team was on hand to offer medical and emergency ambulance services to the pilgrims.

“This led to reduction of suffering and prompt evacuation and referral to nearby hospitals in Arafat, Muzdalifa and Muna.

“Several cardiac resuscitation measures were conducted which saved some lives.

“We are also grateful that no outbreak of any disease was recorded in the Nigerian tents, even though the medical team was in hand providing services through the 25 clinics established inside many state tents. Over 6000 consultations were carried out,” he said.

Mr. Kana said the total number of consultations for Nigerian pilgrims as at Monday stood at 19,504 with 90 referrals to other hospitals.

IDB Slaughters 15,601 Sacrificial Animals for Nigerian Pilgrims

Meanwhile, the Saudi project for the utilisation of hajj meat, known as Adahi, which is managed by the Islamic Development Bank, IDB, has facilitated the slaughter of 15,601 sacrificial animals for Nigerian pilgrims during this year’s hajj.

The ritual was performed on behalf of those Nigerian pilgrims whose collections were made through JAIZ Bank, which was appointed by Nigerian hajj authorities and IDB as the sole collector in the country for the sacrificial animals.

Representatives of JAIZ Bank, along with Nigerian hajj officials, visited the slaughterhouses complex in Mina near Makkah during the Hajj days and were conducted round to witness the slaughter.

This is the third successive hajj season that JAIZ Bank handled collections for the hajj sacrifice, following its appointment as the sole agent in 2015 to collaborate with IDB to perform the ritual on behalf of Nigerian pilgrims.

Interested Nigerian pilgrims paid for their sacrifice animals through the bank, and subsequently the slaughter was handled by IDB at the Mina slaughterhouses.

The Adahi Project was established in 1983 to oversee the slaughter of sacrificial animals for hajj and other Islamic rituals. The project aims at serving pilgrims by providing livestock that meet Shari’ah and health requirements, and also help to make the meat available to beneficiaries around the world.

Since inception, the project has distributed around 20 million animal carcasses among the needy within Saudi Arabia and in 27 other countries.

The police in Kogi have killed a suspected notorious robber and kidnapper on their wanted list for many years, the Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu, said in Lokoja on Monday.

Mr. Inalegwu said that the suspect, identified as Lukman, was killed by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Obeiba, Ihima area of the state on Sunday afternoon.

He said the suspect was shot during an encounter with a team of SARS operatives.

Mr. Inalegwu said that Lukman was shot dead during a cross -fire with SARS men who came in from Abuja to arrest him.

He said that the suspect and some of his gang members on sighting the police team immediately opened fire on them, forcing the police officers to respond.

The attackers also torched the palace of Obobanyi of Emani, Samuel Onimisi, and the private residence of the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Ozigi Salami.

Mr. Inalegwu said the violence was quickly halted through the intervention of a combined team of soldiers and police officers who were drafted to restore order.

He said the security personnel were still in strategic positions in the town to maintain law and order.
