She aborted my pregnancy, threatened to roast me, our children alive and kill herself —Husband

An okada rider, Habib Ojewole, has sought for divorce of his wife, Omolara Ojewole at Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Habib, in his suit, accused his wife of being uncaring, troublesome and stubborn. He thus pleaded with the court to end their relationship and grant him custody of their two children.

He further stated that if his prayer was granted, the court should restrain her from coming to fight him in his home or work place.

Habib stated thus: “My wife is as stubborn as a she goat. She has no regard for me and she is used to flouting my orders.

“She had, on many occasions, been rude to me in the presence of my family members and friends, thus causing me much embarrassment.

“She is fond of raining curses on me and we often fight as a result of her unruly behaviour.

“She and our neighbours are also always at logger heads because she’s not patient enough and feels she’s always right.

She once moved out of home for two years and took our children along with her. She, likewise, left with all my clothes except the one I had on that very day.

“The children, throughout the time she left home, lacked proper care. I, therefore, took steps to make up with her and have her return home.

“My family members were not in support of her return, but I tried to convince them she had changed.

“Few weeks after she returned, she started complaining I was not taking care of her as I used to in the past. She went on to tell her relatives I was maltreating her.

“She, therefore, decided she was going to Lagos to work. She left and was there for three weeks.

“I took ill and was slated to have a surgical operation around the time she returned from Lagos. She came back with N80, 000.

“My siblings were responsible for my operation fee, but I borrowed N10, 000 out of the N80, 000 she came back with. I have made a refund of N8, 000 to her out of this.

“We were both in bed one night when she told me she was pregnant with our third child and she asked for money to abort it.

“According to her, she wanted to terminate the pregnancy because I wasn’t giving her enough money.

“I warned her against her decision, but she remained adamant.

“She came home the third day and announced she had gotten rid of the pregnancy.  I felt quite unpleased with her action, but didn’t say a word.

“She woke me up late in the night two days after this and told me she had been bleeding since she had the pregnancy terminated and that she wanted to go for a scan.

“She left for the hospital the next day, but she refused to tell me the result of the scan.

“We went to bed again that night, but she woke me up in the middle of the night.  I was yet to be fully awake when I noticed she was carrying a gallon of petrol in one hand, while she had a knife and a  box of matches in the other hand.

“My eyes became wide open. I jumped out of bed and made for the door, but it was locked.

“She threatened that night to roast me and the children alive and afterwards kill herself with the knife.

“I tried to calm her down by appealing to her senses throughout the remaining hours of the night. I bolted out of the house at dawn because I was afraid she could make real her threat.

“I returned home a month later.

“My lord, I have heard stories of couples killing themselves. I don’t want my marriage to end on such a sad note. I, therefore, plead that we be separated, “the plaintiff said.

Omolara initially did not accede to her husband’s plea of divorce stating the welfare of her children as her major reason.

She later agreed to his plea after listening to all he had said.

“I left home for two years when our marriage was barely four years old because my husband neglected me and our children.

“Throughout this period, my husband never asked after our children. I was the one responsible for their feeding, clothing and education.

“He later called me; we discussed and made up.  I then moved back home with the children, Omolara said in court.

“Few months
