25-yr-old man commits suicide in Imo

A 25-year-old man identified as Chigozie Igwe has committed suicide by hanging himself in one of the rooms in his family house in Umuofor Umumumo community, in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

Metro learnt that the deceased, said to have been jobless for several years after secondary school education, reportedly cut short his life as a result of frustration and hardship.

When Metro visited the man’s family house, scores of sympathisers could be seen trooping to the compound to commiserate with the family.

As of the time of filing this report, the body of Igwe was dangling.

Efforts to get information from members of the family in respect to the incident could not yield any fruit, even as some youths in the community later locked the room where the body hung.

But a member of the family who craved anonymity later disclosed to Metro that the deceased, who was the first son of his parents, left a suicide note which partly read: “die, die, die; let nobody weep for me because I am tired of this wicked world.”

The mother of the deceased, a widow and peasant farmer, Anthonia Igwe also broke down in tears when she got home and saw the corpse of her son.

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the community could not be reached for comment but his men were said to have visited the scene shortly after the incident was reported.

When contacted, the police image-maker in Imo State, Mr Andrew Enwerem, said the report had not reached his office.
