Abia state police officers have shot dead a suspected kidnapper and armed robber whose gang kidnapped and killed US-Nigerian soldier Chuks Okebata.

A man involved in the kidnap and killing of US-Nigerian soldier, Chuks Okebata, who was killed during Christmas, last year, has been shot dead in Abia state.
According to the Abia state police spokesman, Geoffrey Ogbonna, the suspect who is a native of Okai Item was also involved in the killing of two policemen in April.
Ogbonna who made this known in a statement said that the suspect also participated in the killing of eight members of Abia state Vigilante Service (AVGS).

NAIJ.com gathered that the gang had been terrorising Abia and neighbouring states at Ukpakiri in Obingwa local government area.
The suspect identified as, Samuel Kalu also known as Obere, was killed when operatives of the Abia state anti-kidnapping section stormed a hideout of armed robbers/kidnappers gang.
After the raid, it was revealed that Kalu who is a senior member of the gang was traced to Okai Item.
Chuks Okebata was killed while visiting Imo state
Upon sighting the suspect, a gun duel started between the police officers and Kalu who was shot and injured in the leg.
Ogbonna disclosed that Kalu confessed to all his crimes which include killing of two police officers and eight members of AVGs.
