Man bravely poses with python after saving it from being crushed by a car

A snake enthusiast in Dampier Port Authority in Western Australia diverted traffic around a massive 2.5-metre police python that was leisurely crossing a road.

Matthew Bager was driving with friends recently when he noticed the slithery creature on the road. He stopped his car and ensured it was safe.

As the snake neared the side of the road, he lay on the ground a few meters from it as a friend took a picture.

Matthew lay on the ground next to the huge serpent

A local resident, Tracey Heimberger, shared the picture on Facebook and praised Matthew for ensuring the serpent was safe.

She wrote: "Matthew waited with the python until it got off the road safely. For those of you who aren't from the local area - this road is very busy."

The police python is classified as an endangered species in Australia. It is considered harmless to humans, although it is sometimes mistaken for the deadly king brown snake and killed.

Mathew told Daily Mail Australia that he took the photo with the snake to give people an idea of just how huge it is compared to humans.

Hmmm!
