This inspirational lady overcame cancer to graduate from university with distinction

She went through treatment, returned and graduated with distinction

Sydney Petty's story of resilience and determination is the stuff of high inspiration.

She shared her amazing story on the Facebook page of Because of Them We Can, a US non-profit initiative that showcases stories of Black excellence and inspiration.

Against all odds, she survived cancer and the intense pain and treatment it entails to graduate with a degree in Public Health with distinction from the University of Toledo in Ohio, US.


In her story, Sydney wrote that she first joined the university in 2012 and immediately excelled. However, she was diagnosed with cancer in her second year.

She added that she went through pain, 33 rounds of radiation and chemotherapy in 2014, all of which forced her to drop out.

She wrote that after two days of prayer, she decided to rejoin university while undergoing immunotherapy treatment. She continued to excel despite her challenges and attained a distinction.

She urged people to never give up despite any difficulties they might face, adding: "I am a TESTIMONY that through whatever, keep going even if you can't see the finish line! Tomorrow, I will be able to say that I am a University of Toledo Graduate!"
