Police in Imo have shot dead a suspected armed robber, Chimobi Okorie, after weeks of intense search.
The Guardian reports that Okorie, who is a kingpin, led several armed robbery operations in the state, which made him to be on the tracking list of the police.
Reports gathered that Okorie was traced to a hotel in Okigwe in Imo state, where he engaged the police in a face-off, but the police overpowered him and when he tried to escape, he was shot continuously. The police public relations officer in the state, Andrew Enwerem, said he was eventually arrested and taken to a hospital, but doctors confirmed him dead on arrival
In another development, the police spokesman said operatives of the command acted on a tip-off and dispatched a team known as Operation Condone to a mortuary in Osisioma Aba, Abia state, where, a bank robbery suspect, Justice Ogbonna, was arrested.
Enwerem said Ogbonna is currently under the custody of the command for further investigation. Ogbonna was alleged to be among the armed robbers, who attempted to gain entrance into the Zenith Bank along Wethdral Road, Owerri, on February 23.
