Lab assistant arrested for allegedly selling pregnant women's blood to yahoo boys




Reports gathered that a lab assistant was recently arrested at Abura Dunkwa, Ghana, for allegedly selling the blood of pregnant women to internet fraudsters who use it for money rituals.

According to reports, the man identified as Stephen Enyan, who is a senior laboratory assistant at the Abura Dunkwa district hospital, sold blood samples of pregnant women who visit the hospital for antenatal, to internet fraudsters popularly known in Ghana as Sakawa boys.

Policemen attached to the Abura Dunkwa District Command, revealed that Stephen sold the blood samples for about GH¢5,000-GH¢10,000 (about N450,000 - N900,000) to the fraudsters who in turn used them for money-making rituals.

Prior to his arrest, most patients who visited the hospital reported that their sickness got worse, while some pregnant women also reportedly died or lost their babies.

The hospital authorities decided to bring in the police to investigate their suspicions, leading to Stephen's arrest. He had fallen prey to a policeman who had posed as a fraudster and had contacted him via Whatsapp, asking to meet up with him to purchase blood.

Stephen allegedly demanded for a part payment of GH¢250 (N22,500) which was sent to him, before he was arrested while trying to give the blood to his 'customer'.

Among the allegations levelled against Stephen, were also cases of missing body parts of people who were deposited at the mortuary where he was transferred to, before being recalled to the lab prior to his arrest.
