Three dead, including two young children, after crash on I-30 in Grand Prairie

A driver police believe to have been under the influence of alcohol lost control of his car Friday night on Interstate 30, killing his girlfriend and his two children.

Alexxia Gomez, 4, and Armani Gomez, 3, were taken by ambulance to Children’s Medical Center of Dallas after their father, Demitiri Gomez, lost control of his car, eventually colliding with a concrete light pole base on the median between the Belt Line Rd. exit ramp and the highway. The two children died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.

The children were in the back seat of the car in regular seat belts, but were not secured in child seats, according to a Grand Prairie Police Department news release.

Monica Lopez, 29, who Grand Prairie police say was Demitiri Gomez’ girlfriend, died at the scene of the crash. Both Lopez and Demitiri Gomez, 26, were from Irving. Demitiri Gomez was taken by ambulance to Methodist Dallas Medical Center and is currently listed in serious but stable condition.

Demitiri Gomez was driving a 2006 Honda Civic, westbound on Interstate 30, police say, at a high speed when he lost control of the car near the Belt Line Rd. exit ramp. The car ended up on its side.

The news release says alcohol was a factor in the crash, the ninth fatal collision in Grand Prairie this year, which remains under investigation.
