The officer laughs nervously and tries to ignore the man as he pins her against a wall with one arm.

He dances for a while, then eventually gets bored and walks away after grinning at the camera.

As it happens, a male police officer in the background looks on.

The video has been shared over a thousand times after it was posted on social media.

Many people said they were outraged by the video which they claimed was demeaning and an ‘assault’.

‘The police are weak these days. She should have taken him on. Complete loss of dignity, of her and the office of Constable,’ Pete Collard wrote on Twitter.

Another added: ‘Shame on them if they do not hunt him down and prosecute.’

However, others defended the officer and the man dancing.

‘You can clearly see the policewoman has her arm around the man at the start of the clip,’ Twitter user DJ Bankie said. ‘They’re having a laugh!’

A Met Police spokesman told Metro.co.uk they were aware of the footage and were preparing a comment.

Across the two carnival days, there were just over 300 arrests, many related to drugs and offensive weapons, with the Met Police said there were also 686 arrests carried out in the run-up to the carnival.

Among the arrests at carnival itself, there were some 14 arrests for sexual offences, and 17 arrests for assault of police officers.
