Man 32, kills brother, attacks 6 others with machete


A 32-year-old man, one Henry Igwe yesterday killed his brother, Oliva Igwe and left 6 other family members with heavy machete cuts.

The incident, which took place at their residence located at No. 10 Barr. Egbu Crescent Aguogboriga Abakaliki, in Ebonyi State attracted the attention of passersby.

Investigation revealed that the victims include the Personal Assistant to the Chief Judge of Ebonyi State, Mr. Tobias Igwe and his wife.

The severity of the machete cuts resulted in the Personal Assistant to
the State Chief Judge, Mr Tobias Igwe being rushed to an undisclosed Hospital in Enugu, while his wife and four others were receiving treatment at the Plastic and Surgical Unit of Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki as of the time of filing this report.

One of the victims, Miss Ijeoma Igwe who spoke to journalists explained that their brother Henry attacked them early in the morning while they were still on their beds.

DAILY POST gathered that Henry attacked his family members over the alleged failure of Tobias to provide the money he gave him when he traveled abroad.

Another victim, Miss Florence Igwe said that Henry first lunched the attack on the Personal Assistant to the State Chief Judge and his wife and further attacked others who tried to stop him.

It was also gathered from a close family member that one Mr Nwabuchi Onuagaba and the entire family members, including the attacker had in the previous night, had a family meeting which ended peacefully.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the State Judiciary, Mr Eugene Okafor confirmed the attack on the PA to the State Chief Judge, noting that he was responding to treatment.

He, however, did not confirm whether the attacker has been arrested.
