Emeteole laid to rest in Isikwuato


Coach Kelechi Emeteole was buried in his hometown in Abia state on Friday, August 18. The former coach died in an Indian hospital after undergoing treatment for throat cancer.

The former Green Eagles star was buried after his body arrived Amiyi Obilohia in Isikwuato Local Government, Abia state.

Extra Time gathered that a funeral service was held at the International Church of Christ at his compound with interment following immediately after.

Nicknamed the Caterpillar, Emeteole played for the then Green Eagles at the 1976 Africa Nations Cup (AFCON) in Ethiopia and served as assistant coach for the Golden Eaglets in 1985.

Coach Emeteole was a veteran Nigerian football gaffer who has managed clubs like Enyimba, Lobi Stars, Heartland, El-Kanemi Warriors and reigning Nigerian champions Enugu Rangers.
