Dogs avert suicide bombing in Borno

Brave and vigilant dogs have averted suicide bomb attacks on a public hospital in Maiduguri, the Borno’s capital, forcing the bombers to blew up themselves.
Two suicide bombers; a male and female, attempting to force their way into a temporary settlement for rehabilitated leprosy patients at Molai General Hospital, on Friday were prevented by some dogs barking and threatening the bombers.
The police said the incident occurred at about 5.15a.m, on Friday, at Molai General Hospital, at the outskirt of Maiduguri.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Borno Command, Victor Isuku, in a statement, said the persistent barking of the dogs prevented the suicide bombers from entry the crowded abode of the leprosy patients undergoing rehabilitation.
“They were prevented by the persistent barking and attacks from dogs in the area. In the process, they hurriedly detonated IEDs strapped to their bodies, killing themselves,” he said.
The bombers hurriedly detonated the explosives, killing themselves and one of the dogs without any other civilian casualty, Isuku said.
Earlier, another bomb blast occurred at about 11.22pm within the city on Thursday night in same Molai area. “A female suicide bomber detonated IED strapped on her body near a joint security guard location in Molai general area, killing herself alone,” the police disclosed in a statement.
The bomb attacks came nearly two weeks after twin explosions killed about 14 people at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp at the city outskirts.
