The scene of the incident
A mother and her two children have died in a car accident in north Devon, police said.
According to a Metro UK report, the family are believed to have been on a summer holiday to the West Country when the accident between their car and a lorry happened.
It was witnessed by the woman’s husband, step-father to the two children, who was travelling just ahead of them in a separate vehicle.
Emergency services were called at 8.25am on Monday to the A361 in Barnstaple.
The section of road near Aller Cross and Lankey Junction will be closed for the rest of the day.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: ‘A road closure has been put on at West Buckland junction and the Lankey junction on the A361 whilst officers conduct scene investigations.
‘The closure is likely to be on all day and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.’
The carriageway was also closed in both directions to allow the air ambulance to land.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to get in touch.
North Devon MP Peter Heaton-Jones sent his condolences to the victims, saying: ‘Very sad to hear three people – a mother and two children – died in North Deveon Link Road crash today. Thoughts with families and emergency services.’
Only yesterday he had tweeted an appeal to make the road safer, following a separate crash on Sunday.
‘We need major improvements to make the road safer which is why I and Devon County Council are pushing so hard,’ he said.
