Police rescue kidnap victims, nab 9 in Kogi

Kogi state Police Command has arrested nine suspected kidnappers and rescued one of their victims, Pastor Oliver Clement. A press statement by the Police Public Relations Offi cer (PPRO), Mr William Aya, yesterday in Lokoja said that the suspects were rounded up at various hideouts in Okene, Ankpa, Lokoja and other parts of the state. He said that the cleric was kidnapped on July 9, 2017, and was with his abductors until July 13, when he was rescued. He said the: “Th e kidnappers took Pastor Oliver Clement to their hideout at Inye in Ankpa area. We are happy to announce that he has reunited with his family.”

According to him, one of the suspects, Uche Michael, was arrested at the General Hospital, Okpo, Olamaboro Local Government Area, where he was receiving treatment for bullet wounds. Aya, who described Michael as a notorious armed robber and kidnapper, who had escaped police arrest in Ondo state, said the suspect had been on the police wanted list for so many years. He named other arrested suspects to include: Muazu Salem; Mutari Suleiman; Mohammed Abubakar; Ibrahim Ali; Abdulahi Idris; Amodu Isah and Gade Garba. Th e spokesperson said that nine assorted rifl es, including AK47, pump action machine, double barrel guns and pistols were recovered from the suspects, adding that intelligence offi cers have been detailed to track and arrest some of the suspects who were on the run. Also recovered from them are live cartridges, cutlasses, knives, hammers and charms. Aya said that some of the suspects had made confessional statement and would soon be charged to court
