It's Tuesday, July 4, a momentous day in the United States as the country celebrates its independence day.
The day is also momentous for former first daughter of the United States (US), Malia Obama — it's her birthday!
The daughter of former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama is absolutely adored around the world. Here are some reasons why.

1. She is intelligent:
Well, as the daughter of two Ivy League-educated parents, it's only natural for Malia to pluck their intelligent genes. She's going to Harvard University later this year.
2. She's independent:
Most American students go straight to university after completing high school. However, Malia decided to take a gap year. This shows her independence.

3. She's politically engaged:
Malia made news earlier this year when she participated in a protest against the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline which President Donald Trump later approved. She made it clear that she cares about the environment and is ready to participate in issues she cares about.
4. She's charting her own way:
As the daughter of two law graduates, Malia might have felt some pressure to also study law. However, she is pursuing an interest in the creative arts, especially film production. She has been interning at Weinstein Co., a film production company in New York.

5. She is low-key:
Being the daughter of the president could easily have got into the head of someone else but not Malia. She rarely grants her own interviews and has hardly been associated with scandals. Way to go.
