Many feared killed, properties destroyed as Cross River communities clash


Many people have been reportedly killed in a communal clash in cross River state

The clash was between residents of Wanikade and Wanihem both in Ukelle North area of the state

Properties worth millions of naira were also said to have been lost in the clash

Many people are feared to have been killed in a communal clash in Yala local government area of Cross River state.

The crisis which started between residents of Wanikade and Wanihem both in Ukelle North area of the state escalated following a land dispute.

Various properties worth millions of naira were also said to have been destroyed in the clash.

NAIJ.com gathered that the incident which started on Monday, June 26, is one out of many crisis within the area.

In June, many lives and properties were said to have been lost in Obubra and Yakurr local government areas over a piece of land.

100 people were said to be killed in just one conflict.


Also, an eye witness who pleaded anonymity said the clash lasted for three days without any form of intervention from either the state or federal government.

“Close to hundred persons have lost their lives due to land dispute in Ukelle North, Yala LGA”, he alleged.

Also confirming the report, the Cross River state commissioner of police Hafiz Inuwa said, contrary to reports that 100 people were killed in the clash, only one fatality was recorded.

Inuwa added that houses and properties were also destroyed.


He said: It’s just a little misunderstanding and the matter has been settled with the help of the police and the military."

NAIJ.com earlier reported how the House of Representatives waded into a communal clash between communities in Cross River and Akwa Ibom.

The matter which was brought to the attention of the house by Honourable Okon Archibong was said to have left 37 people were killed.
