See the street and stadium to be named after Anthony Joshua (photos)



NAIJ.com took a trip to Sagamu Remo, Ogun state to visit the street and stadium the Ogun state government is looking to rename after Anthony Joshua.

Ogun state house of assembly member majority leader of the State House of Assembly Yinka Mafe is looking to move a motion to have the Gateway International Stadium renamed Anthony Joshua Stadium, and the popular Cinema Street in the city, renamed the "Anthony Joshua Street".

It is believed that the boxer's family owns almost half the land and property on one side of Cinema street in the popular town.

NAIJ.com also gathered that the Joshua family are originally from Ijebu-Ode but some members have settled in Sagamu.

The British-Nigerian boxer defeated Ukraine's Wladimir Klitschko to become the new World Heavyweight Champion on April, 29.

The 27-year-old knocked out Klitschko in the 11th round to retain his IBF title and claim the vacant WBA and IBO belts.

The cinema, from which the road takes its name, was built by the boxer's great grandfather Omo-Oba Daniel Adebambo Joshua in the 50s, and is one of the oldest of such facilities in the country.

NAIJ.com visited the family home of the boxer in Sagamu, Ogun state.
