Reports reaching NAIJ.com have it that a group of young girls who are currently representing Kogi state at a popular basketball tournament have been subjected to inhuman treatment.
The young ladies of Overcomers and Technical Collage who are featuring for the state claimed to have been shortchanged, as they sleep on bare floor inside the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja.
The girls who lost their semi-final game 22-12 to Benue ladies claimed that their loss was as a result of the inhuman treatment meted-out on them by the Kogi state sports co-ordinator Joseph Abah who they alleged to have diverted funds meant to cater for their welfare.
The young girls could barely find a decent place to sleep
The team's captain Abdulmaleek Sherifat lamented the unconducive state of their accommodation, narrating how mosquitoes dealt with their lives.
"I fainted in camp, but there was no first aid and was rushed to the specialist hospital; unfortunately, they were on strike," Abdulmaleek began.
"We drank rain water which is not healthy. I hope the state government will intervene in this sad incident.
"She further revealed that her team only got N600 each on Saturday, May 6, before being increased to N900 on Sunday, insisting they received no match allowance.
The girls return to their base after a game
Head coach of the team Saliu Topson also lamented that the girls were starved for days by the embattled sports coordinator, saying he refused to disclose the allotted funds.

NAIJ.com also gathered that participants of other states including Benue, Niger and Nasarawa were lodged at luxury hotels within the state except for the hosts who put their players in the stadium.
