It is a happy occasion for a 44-year-old mom to graduate from college on the same day as her daughter.

However, it was an even happier occasion when the mom, Tasha Oliver of Georgia, US, made the achievement recently after surviving breast cancer twice.

Tasha and her daughter Cierra Patterson both graduated with diplomas in healthcare management from Clayton State University.

Her first cancer diagnosis was in 2006 and her second came in 2009, one year after she enrolled for her studies in 2008.

In an interview, Tasha's daughter Cierra said: "I think the second time, that was a shocker. You don’t think something like that would happen again after you overcome it the first time."

Against the odds: Tasha beat cancer twice
The added that the experience strengthened their family bonds and brought them closer. It became even more symbolic when Tasha and Cierra were both studying for the same diploma at the same university.

Tasha said she hopes to further her studies and obtain a master's degree while Cierra is looking forward to joining nursing school.
