Woman who tipped scales at 500kg loses half her weight in just one month

An Egyptian woman was, until one month ago, the most obese female in the world

But now, after a life-saving surgery she managed to lose more than 200 kilos

Her doctor called the intervention a complete success

Eman Ahmed was until recently the world's fattest woman, at more than half a ton. This Egyptian woman nevertheless embarked upon a life-saving trip to India back in February, in order to undergo surgery that would allow her to lose around 200 kilos.

She has a condition called elephantiasis
Ahmed has a condition called elephantiasis. She did not leave her house for almost twenty years, and in order to be transported to India, a special modification had to be done to the airplane that flew her, and a crane to lift her.

The 36-year-old’s doctor, Muffazal Lakdwala, first put Ahmed on a strict liquid diet, in order for her to lose around 100 kilos before the intervention. That first phase lasted for about one month.

In the hospital
At last, Ahmed had a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in March, and has now reached a weight of 260 kilos.

“The extent of the post-surgical recovery was beyond my expectations,” Lakdwala said, adding that “the weight loss has also dramatically improved her health. Eman's heart, kidneys and lungs are functioning better and her water retention levels are under control.”

After operation

The consequences of her staggering weight, such as sleep apnea, hypothyroid, diabetes, hypertension, kidney problems and fluid retention, are now also getting better.
