MEMBERS of the House Representatives, Wednesday moved to enforce the ‘pay as you go’ option on Multichoice Satellite television.
To this end, the House in plenary mandated the committees on Ethics, Values and National Orientation, Telecommunications to interface with Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC) the Consumer Protection Council and the Multichoice Satellite Television Company to address these concerns and report back within 8weeks for further legislative action.
This was sequel to a motion entitled:’Need To Investigate The Exorbitant Charges And Refusal of Multichoice Satellite Tv Company To Adopt the Pay As You Go Option Package’, promoted by Rep Abbas Tajudeen, PDP,Plateau.
Abbas in his submission had argued that” the ever increasing prices of the various bouquet on offer by Multichoice Satellite Tv Company and its refusal to offer ‘Pay As You Go’ package option on its digital satellite tv.
He said “this development is causing a financial strain on its subscribers and this practice of increase is almost on a yearly basis as in 2013 the monthly subscription increased by 10-15percent and in 2015 by 10-22percent and just recently another notification of increase was sent.
“DSTV does not have ‘a pay as you go’ plan like most similar communication companies around the world thereby making one’s subscription to end at the end of the month, this is against all known and fair business practices all over the world.
At this point, the presiding officer, Yussuff Lasun put the motion to a voice vote and the ays carried the day.
