Lyon's clash with Bastia was abandoned due to crowd trouble

Bastia Ultra's attacked former Manchester United star Memphis Depay

The match was initially abandoned for one hour before kicking off

Thereferee was forced to cancel the match after more crowd trouble

Lyon's Ligue 1 match with at Bastia was abandoned at half-time due to crowd trouble by the Ultra's of the latter club.

The match was initially delayed for nearly an hour by officials after their players, including former Manchester United Memphis Depay, were attacked by angry home supporters.

The fans attacked Lyon players few minutes to the end of the pre-match warm-up despite efforts of the security.


Fans of Bastia invaded the pitch
The attack comes just three days after their Europa League clash with Besiktas was delayed due to fan violence.

Lyon players and officials were escorted to the tunnel as fans invaded the pitch.

After discussions between officials and security staff, however the match was allowed to go ahead but first the teams were allowed to finish their warm up more than 30 minutes after they were due to kick off.


Some players tried to fight back
When Lyon did take to the field for the second time they were applauded by most home supporters and each member of their squad was embraced by the club's president, Jean-Michel Aulas.

Reports gathered that 'Bastia 1905', the supporters' group reportedly responsible for the violence, meanwhile, were booed by the rest of the stadium.


The match eventually got underway shortly before 6pm local time, with Ligue 1 officials having confirmed that they will look into the incident.

Recall that Lyon's Europa League match with Besiktas was marred by crowd violence.
