10 in hospital as Remo Stars suffer alleged food poisoning




Reports say players of the team ate local dishes of Semo and Egusi soup

Remo Stars are billed to face FC Ifeanyi Ubah in crucial NPFL Week 28 fixture

10 players of the team have been hospitalized for alleged food poisoning

Ahead of their Week 28 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture against FC Ifeanyi Ubah, a serious health crisis has hit Remo Stars as about 10 players of the team have been hospitalised for alleged food poisoning.

In a statement by the club’s media officer Oladimeji Oshode, the seriously affected players are currently undergoing treatment at the Ikenne General Hospital, Remo.

Names of the victims given are Ekene Awazie, Victor Mbaoma, Abiodun Awoyemi , Umar Martaba, Oknuoghae Osas, Edozie Ewelike, and Onovo David.

Others are Ekene Obi, Saidu Muhammed, Paul Isaac, David Walbe, and Shuji Oshobe, Akeem Taiwo and goalkeeper trainer Dahiru Ilu.

Although the cause of the tragic incident is unknown as at the time of filing this report, the team’s secretary Michael Onikute narrated that they ate Semo and Egusi soup a night before their match.

He said: "It's such a disastrous incident. We have prepared well for the game against Ifeanyiubah and have had the players resting after dinner which they had Semovita and Egusi only for me to get a call that they were in pains and all I could think of what getting them to the hospital alongside the team doctor.

"In a bid to keep them safe and have a clean bill of health the camp was fumigated yesterday (Friday, July 7) only for this casualty to befall us on the eve of a vital game against Ifeanyiubah."

Remo stars are currently languishing at the bottom of the NPFL having managed just 27 points from 27 games.
