According to Metro UK, an aeroplane in the US has had to make an emergency landing because there was a foul smell.

The JetBlue Airways flight from California to Florida had to land at Oklahoma City at around 2.22am.

Initially it was believed that the foul smell, which left some needing hospital treatment, was coming from the cockpit. However it was later found to be emanating from the back of the plane.

The smell was so bad that 20 to 25 of the 135 passengers had to be treated at the scene for breathing problems.

Firefighters from Oklahoma City Fire Department used oxygen tanks to help them breathe, according to KWTV.

Tracking data on FlightAware shows that the plane landed at Will Rogers World Airport early yesterday morning. Another plane from New York was drafted in to complete the journey.

It is not known what caused the foul smell.
