The Top 10 Most Wanted list from the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office is making national rounds after including the name, photo and description of one Abraham Quintanilla, 53, of Corpus Christi.
The big attention is not because Quintanilla has reportedly racked up more than $87,000 in back child support, either. It’s because of his standing in the Tejano music/Latin pop scene. Quintanilla is the older brother of Selena, the Tejano pop star who was murdered by the founder of her fan club in 1995.
Quintanilla was a member of his sister’s group Selena y los Dinos, and wrote most of her biggest solo hits. He went on to make a name for himself in Latin pop as one of the creators of the Kumbia Kings, after his sister’s death. He primarily played bass and produced music.
The offense associated with Quintanilla on the most wanted list is contempt of court, nonpayment of child support. According to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, he was included on the Top 10 after missing a court hearing for his child support case.
He’s listed alongside others whose offenses vary from indecency with a child to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which he said Wednesday in an interview with Spanish language site TVynovelas.com was “totally unfair.”
“My issue is a family court issue, and I’m grouped together with people who have done bad things,” Quintanilla said in the same interview. “I don’t deserve this.”
