Liverpool are on the verge of missing out on the UEFA Champions League spot
The Reds were defeated at home 1-2 by visiting Crystal Palace
Christian Benteke netted a brace in the fixture to put Jurgen Klopp's side in danger
In what could be described as a major upset in the latter stages of the English Premier League 2016/2017 season, Liverpool lost 1-2 at home to Crystal Palace.
Jurgen Klopp’s men started the game with much intensity and after 24 minutes of play, Philippe Coutinho scored from a freekick after Luka Milivojevic had brought him down.
Benteke celebrates his second goal against Liverpool
Barely 3 minutes into the interval, Christian Benteke scored from close range to draw his side level as both sides went into the break 1-1.
As the tie continued with Liverpool looking to get the much needed second goal, Benteke struck once again with a sublime header to win it for the visitors. It ended; Liverpool 1-2 Crystal palace.
The win is enough to push Palace to 12th position on the log with 38 points from 33 matches. Liverpool remain 3rd on the EPL standings with 66 points from 34 matches.
Liverpool are now on the verge of missing out of the top 4. With 64 and 63 points respectively, Manchester City and Manchester United who are 4th and 5th on the standings are at advantage having played 32 games each so far; 2 less than Liverpool.
It was earlier reported that Manchester United defeated Burnley 2-0 away from home to stand a chance of a UEFA Champions League.
